We are down to the last 8 teams for the Euro 2016 Championships and we see some surprising faces in the top 8. Many were commenting that the brackets were lopsided after the group stages and the last 16 saw a few top teams drop out of the tournament.

In the first quarterfinal, we have Poland playing Portugal for a place in the semifinals. Poland went through on penalties after a draw with the Swiss and Portugal made it through after a dull 1-0 victory over the Croatians. Portugal are favourites in this fixture and if Cristiano Ronaldo decides to show up, they should have no problems against the Poland side.
Next we have a tantalising match between Wales and Belgium. Wales, led by Gareth Bale will face a tough task of trying to overcome an in-form Belgian side. Bale will need to be at his best for Wales to have a chance against Belgium. Belgium breezed through the last 16 with a massive 4-0 victory over Hungary where we saw a great display as well as a masterclass from Eden Hazard. Belgium are looking like tournament favourites and should have too much quality for Wales.
On the other side of the draw, we have Germany facing Italy. These two traditional footballing powerhouses have had a pretty smooth sailing tournament so far and it looks like it will be a keenly contested match. Germany are trying to consolidate their World Cup win with the Euro Championships. This match will be a battle between German efficiency and the tactical brilliance of the Italian side which took out holders Spain in the last 16. It is a tough match to call but it would seem that the Germans have a slight edge in this encounter.
In the last quarterfinal match up, we have the hosts France playing against Iceland. Iceland have so far been the fairy tale team of this tournament getting through the group stages undefeated and then beating England in the last 16. Few would have expected Iceland to make it so far, especially against a star-studded English squad. The fairy tale would likely come to an end against France though. The host nation is playing some impressive football and if nothing goes wrong, we should see them through to the semifinals. Will Iceland pull off another Greece? Probably not.
